Kirk Kerkorian: “What would it take to buy Western Armenia?”

Kirk Kerkorian, an American billionaire of Armenian origin, today, June 6, celebrates his 100 anniversary.

In 1998, he had made his first visit to Armenia. Former Foreign Minister Vartan Oskanian wrote in his memories:

“In addition to working meetings, Kirk visited various sites. At Tsitsernakaberd, at the entrance of the Armenian Genocide museum, the director, Lavrenti Barseghian, was explaining and he was listening. I was standing a few feet away when I heard him call my name. He was standing before the big carved map of Western Armenia, marked by the immensity of the loss. He turned to me and very sincerely, asked, “What would it take to buy this place?” I responded, wishfully, “It will take more than money, Kirk.”
