On October 22nd, 2016, ANI Armenian Research Center organizes a one day conference titled “Armenia’s 2017 elections: A look from within and the Diaspora.”

The previous annual conference organized by ANI Center (October 30, 2015, Gyumri’s “Shirak” center) titled “Our Kars,” was devoted to the 95th anniversary of the fall of Kars, one of the cities of the Firs Republic of Armenia (1918-1920/21).

In the spring of 2017 Armenia has parliamentary elections, which will be the first elections after 2015’s referendum on constitutional amendments.

The papers presented during the conference as well as subsequent discussions will seek answers to the questions noted below.

Is it possible to hold  free and fair elections in Armenia?

What steps should be taken in this direction?

What are the obstacles hindering the organization of fair vote?

What is the role of the Diaspora and does the Diaspora have commitment towards Armenia’s political life?

How are the Javakhk Armenian citizens engaged in fraud?

What ways of election frauds ensure the authorities’ successive victories?

How to learn from Georgia’s experience to hold relatively free elections?

Can the opposition unite, what are the factors that hinder the unification?

Finally, is it possible to change the government in Armenia through constitutional means – the elections, and if not, then what is the way out of the vicious circle and WHAT TO DO?

ANI Center will provide the transportation of participants from Armenia, Artsakh and Georgia to and from Gyumri.

Technical and other logistical issues, the conference venue, including opportunity for the Diaspora participants to be present will be informed additionally.

This one-day conference is organized within the crowd funding, and all the individuals and organizations who want to bring their modest or generous contribution, can do so by transfers to the ANI Center bank account.

All the names of individuals and companies will be duly mentioned during the conference and in the materials, as well as on the website of ANI center.
